INTECHRA INCREASES DATA SECURITY WITH UTIMACO PARTNERSHIP
JACKSON, MS. August 15, 2006 -- Information technology asset disposition company Intechra is giving its customers even greater comfort about data security compliance thanks to a new partnership with Utimaco, one of the world's leading encryption providers.

Information technology asset disposition company Intechra uses environmentally sound disposal methods to recycle or reuse old electronics equipment for companies such as Southwest Airlines, BAE Systems, Pier 1 Imports and Graybar Electric Company. In 2005, Intechra:

Using Utimaco's SafeGuard Easy solution, Intechra can provide encryption for any hard drive on any device before it leaves the customer's facility, eliminating any potential privacy breaches or data security problems while the hard drive is en route to Intechra.

"Data security compliance is critical to every one of our clients," said Chip Slack, Intechra CEO. "The data security regulations in place today are pervasive and businesses need every possible security breach prevented. When a company knows its devices have been encrypted before leaving their facility, the company can have the peace of mind that its data – and that of its customers – is properly managed.

"We quickly realized that many existing in-house solutions can easily and quickly become obsolete, given the rapid change of technology. It was important to us to partner with an encryption provider with a proven track record of security and capabilities. The market recognizes the value Utimaco brings to the encryption arena, which is evident in the fact that their encryption business has tripled every year for the past three years. Given their leadership position and the strength of the SafeGuard Easy product, it was a natural decision to partner with Utimaco to offer this same value to our customers."

The growth in encryption has been fueled by consumer protection legislation enacted by at least 22 states, including New York, California, Illinois and Texas, requiring companies to notify their customers if a computer with customer data is stolen or missing. Most privacy laws do not require customer notification if the data is encrypted because the data cannot be read.

With Utimaco's SafeGuard Easy, no unauthorized user may access the device and read data or use the device as a tool to enter the company network. If a device gets into unauthorized hands, the data is securely protected even if the hard disk is removed. Complete encryption of the entire hard disk and a user authentication procedure that runs before the operating system boots provide secure protection.

"Utimaco's SafeGuard Easy platform will provide both value and peace of mind for Intechra's customers," said Brendan Sullivan, Director of Channels and Distribution at Utimaco. "SafeGuard Easy provides state-of-the-art encryption using 256-bit AES ciphers and pre-boot authentication. Customers can rest assured their hard disks will be locked and their data encrypted with the best security protection available today."

All encryption occurs at the customer's facility, then the electronic assets are transported to Intechra where the company erases the drive using a three-wipe Department of Defense approved data destruction process. Intechra then repairs and remarkets electronic assets that can be reused; it recycles those that are no longer usable.

With stringent controls on its ISO certified processes, Intechra indemnifies its clients from any liability related to the disposal of the equipment, thus providing an even stronger assurance that their assets are disposed of properly.

Intechra is the largest IT asset disposition company in the country, with processing centers in Dallas, Phoenix and Columbus, Ohio.
